I’m a Scientist

While meteorology is my passion and I’ve been in love with putting together the puzzle that is our atmosphere, I’ve expanded my roles while at ABC and found science all over the world.

MY PASSIONS

I’m a NYT best selling author, a mental health advocate, a fitness enthusiast, and I’ve even started cooking a lot on tv.
You might have seen me on season 22 of “Dancing with the Stars”.

I’m a Meteorologist

I have a B.S. in Meteorology from Valparaiso University and have been stormchasing for 20 years. My first big storm I covered was hurricane Katrina and most recently I was in Mexico Beach, Florida of Cat 5 Hurricane Michael

I am a conduit of climate science

I’m incredibly protective of our planet and want to connect climate change and our lack of sustainability to change. This was a focus of our ABC News original digital series, Food Forecast, focused on climate and its impact on agriculture.

I Cover
Natural DisasterS

More than hurricanes I’ve covered the major tornado outbreaks, floods, wildfires here and this last year in Australia.

And Leading climate change stories

like the impacts to Victoria Falls in Africa.

FOR THE
FUTURE SCIENTISTS

My job goes beyond a passion for the atmosphere and into compassion for the human side of these storms. My goals include being a role model and encouraging young people to become scientists like me so I wrote a STEM trilogy called Chasing Helicity  targeted for 8-12 year olds but perfect for anyone who likes adventure and science.

A LITTLE CLOSER TO HOME

Got some Emmy's, a few Murrow's and my team won a DuPont-Columbia award. My Bachelor of Science in Meteorology is from Valparaiso University where I was as an adjunct professor from 2008 to 2011. I also have the Certified Broadcast Meteorologist seal from the American Meteorological Society. Just recently I was inducted into the weather hall of fame in Oklahoma (date pending because of COVID19).

Above all of that, I am a proud mom to two little boys and a wife to Ben Aaron. We live in New York.
